Romanticizing the Blizzard

found via

I don't know about you, but whenever I think about getting snowed in, I think about reading tons of books, drinking good wine with a stew or some roasted chicken followed by hot cocoa on the couch under a blanket while watching a movie.  Books! Booze! Food! Movies! Snuggles!

I am home right now, still waiting on Alex to arrive home safely (it's 7:00 and coming down!) I've got a chicken in the oven, a glass of wine next to my laptop and NPR on the radio.  But as I was waiting for my chicken to be done, I found myself reading the same boring status updates over and over again on facebook, mindlessly zoning out on Twitter and feeling a little blah.

"WTF.  A blizzard is happening.  This is special. Make the most of it!" My brain suddenly yelled at me.  So I have decided, right after I finish this blog post, to unplug for the weekend.  By unplug I mean take a break from the internet.  I'll still watch movies and TV, I'll still use my laptop to work on writing, but no online stuff for a few days.  No one romanticizes a blizzard by saying "I'm going to read a ton of shit on the internet  and be on Facebook all weekend!" Or at least I know I don't.

Will be checking in again on Monday.  I'd love to come back to comments, so please, tell me what you're up to this weekend.  What good books are you reading? I just finished this one.  And did you have the perfect snowed in weekend too?  I hope so.

  1. LOL! Well Sarah, I too am roasting a chicken with a glass of Dreaming Tree Crush wine in hand. In S.E. VA we had a day & 1/2 of solid rain from the storm that has moved your way. Im currently reading an older Micheal Connelly book. The weekend here looks sunny and drying out. Stay safe & warm!!!

  2. Right on the Money! I am going to enjoy this blizzard with editing, hot toddies, lasagna and banana bread. I'm very much looking forward to it and looking forward to having some time to catch up on everything I have to do within the house! I can finally reply to emails, do some reading and organize. I hope you and Alex enjoy Nemo! xo

  3. I know exactly what you mean! I am trying to get better at using my free time because it often gets sucked up this way, blizzard or not. Fortunately/unfortunately, no snow here today, so I'll be working all weekend. Hope you had a nice weekend at home!

  5. I wish we had snow. It's been raining in London for the last 24 hours or so. Ugh! Hope you had a lovely blizzard.

  6. Wow, you just made a blizzard sound amazing. It's pretty warm down here in Fl, but I did manage to unplug yesterday which was nice. Went to a retreat center, did some yoga, tibetan bowl meditation, labyrinth walk and ended with taking pictures for an outfit post.
I really feel like you should print a bumper sticker that says "Books! Booze! Food! Movies! Snuggles!Blizzard!" ;) <3 Here's to hoping you're safe and warm.
