Reading: I just finished Tom Perrotta's short story collection Bad Haircut: Stories of the Seventies and really enjoyed it.  I feel like I start every summer off by reading a short story collection and this one sucked me right in.  Every story has the same main character, which is a boy named Buddy and we see him in various ages of his life but mostly as a teenager.  It also takes place in New Jersey and really just felt like a perfect summer reading book.

Watching: Alex and I just finished season's one and two of Treme and now I'm going through New Orleans brass band withdrawal.  And withdrawal from all the characters.  Don't you love when you find yourself thinking about fictional character's like they are real people?  That's when you know something is good.  Have any of you watched this show? It's on HBO Go and so good.  The music is such an added bonus as well the theme song itself always gets me dancing.  Kind of has me dreaming about visiting New Orleans.

Thinking about: Living in New York, which is something I think I do every summer when I'm really craving nature and grass and smells other than garbage.  I know I write about how much I love New York City all the time on this blog, and I'm not lying, I really do.  But every once and a while I wonder if I'll ever live in the country again.  This Gawker essay really hit close to home for me and I gotta say, it's started me thinking...

Loving: The summer time.  Even with the heat wave that finally broke.  Let me paint a picture for you right now: Alex and I are in the living room, I'm on my lap top, he's reading, the windows are open, the fan is on and I'm wearing cut off jeans.  My hair hasn't been blow dried in weeks.  It just feels right.

Anticipating: The garage sale we are having of my grandmother's things this Saturday.  I'm going home at the end of the week to help organize and then will help with the sale on Saturday.  Honestly, I don't really know what to expect, except that I'll probably have to write a blog post about it to figure it all out, so stay tuned.

Listening to: Now that we have a car (yay!) I've been listening to the radio whenever I drive. Q104.3, while it's not perfect plays some pretty great jams, like I feel like I'm just discovering Led Zeppelin and you gotta love the 12:00 Beatles Block.  Also, I feel like all the DJs are old stoners who still go to concerts and would be really fun to hang out with once and a while.

Eating: Well currently, as in right this second, I just had an ice cold glass of milk all on it's own.  I can't really remember that last time I did that and it was delicious!  I feel like a got milk ad, but seriously guys, might want to reconsider your relationship with milk.  I'm also eating a boatload of summer fruit and loving every ripe and juicy second of it.

Feeling thankful for: Dragging myself to yoga almost every morning during the week and on the weekends.  I'm so thankful to be able to give myself so much selfish attention.  My body is really thanking me for it, and my downward facing dog is getting pretty awesome you guys!

Thanks to Danielle for the "currently" inspiration!

  1. I feel you with the leaving New York (except I live in London). Big cities are expensive and exhausting and can be hard on your heart. It is nice having everything on your doorstep, but it is tough when you have to work so much you don't really get to enjoy it. At least I live near a big park, so I get a bit of a nature hit regularly.

  2. Way to go with the yoga, I admire your commitment! And thanks for the book recommendation. I'm going to see if my library has a copy for adding to my summer reading stack.
