Phantom phone ringing

Maybe I should get this phone case...

Last night, when I was falling asleep, I kept picturing myself scrolling through my iPhone.  Isn't that awful?  It reminded me of when we would spend a week at the beach when I was little and I would fall asleep hearing and seeing the ocean when I closed my eyes. Except scrolling through your iPhone is horrible and the ocean is the most amazing thing in the world.

I decided then and there that I would be taking a break from my phone today.  I'm shutting it off and will only turn it on if I need to use it as an actual phone as in talk to someone and hear their voice- no texting!

Is there anyone who doesn't get burnt out on technology?  Did you know that phantom phone ringing and vibrating is a real thing that many people experience?  (It can also happen with a crying baby) I know I have!  Have you?  Let me know in the comments!  And join me if you can in turning off your phone today, I'd love to hear all about it.


  1. I'm addicted to my phone. It's a horrible thing that I've actually considered getting therapy about it! Sometimes I really hate technology! Let me see if I can turn it off today. Yogis is quite the challenge!

  3. I hardly ever use my phone. It's not even connected to the internet. Part of the reason for that is because it makes me sick when I'm at a family get-together or party and everyone is sitting around scrolling through their iphones and not engaging in conversation with others. I can see how they are easy devices to get lost in.

  4. Ever since I got a "smart" phone I've used it way too often and it's definitely annoying. I'm trying to get in better habits though before baby girl comes along because the last thing I want is to be one of those parents paying more attention to their phone than their kid. Definitely addictive.

  5. When I go on the ol' meditation retreats-we're asked to put our phones away for the entire time. If we feel tempted to look at them, we're supposed to hand them in to the office. It feels so good to be away from it for a week and to notice "life" without checking facebook or my email. I mean, I have to look at it for work-but as for falling asleep and having my phone be the last thing I look at-that's such a gross feeling! I've been meaning to buy a proper alarm clock so that I don't bring my phone to bed. Yay to turning your phone off!

  6. That is a wonderful idea! I've found myself in bed checking FB, Twitter, Instagram just 20 minutes after closing my laptop. It's gross. Before I had a smartphone I never even slept with it in my bedroom, and then it was always on my nightstand. Now I keep it plugged in across the room (it's my alarm clock) so I can't mess with it. The past few weeks I've been trying to cut down on technology in general at night and it's been great!

  7. I just read about phantom vibrating today! I get that all the time, and occasionally phantom ringing, it's downright ridiculous in my opinion haha. I definitely spend too much time on my phone and it annoys me (and Greg). Isn't it funny how the more technology we get, and the easier it is to do things, the more annoyed we get with it all haha.
